Blacktron Scouttrax video!

The video of my Blacktron Scouttrax is finally done. Took me a lot longer to make than I had thought. Mainly that was because I was experimenting with animation for the first time which just is a labourious process, at least the way I did it. Hope you will like the video. I am also working on a MOCtalk video of this MOC in which I will talk about the technical details, how it all works.

Blacktron Scouttrax

This is my Blacktron fast Scouttrax. It is inspired by the 6941 which was one of my favorite sets when I was a kid. It is also the first wheeled vehicle I've build since my 'dark age'. I've been working on this for a long time, abandoning the project several times because I couldn't get it to work as I imagined it. There are still some things I am not quite happy with, so this will not be the final model. I have plenty of ideas on how to improve it. But I think it is far enough along to show it to you guys. I went a little overboard on motors: I really like fast vehicles :). This model is fast enough to get some nice drift action going. It looks really good when doing a fast corner. I should have a video of it up in a couple of weeks. You can find some more images on my Flickr account if you are interested

MOCtalk: LEGO Tank Mark 7 Athena

In this video I talk a little about the technical side of my latest LEGO tank, the Mark 7 Athena. In it I try to show you how and why it works.
I specifically talk about:
  • Why I chose to make this tank;
  • How I made the gun stabilizing system with LEGO Mindstorms;
  • My general philosophy for building LEGO MOCs and how that influences the way I build tanks;
  • And finally I will talk about some modifications I made to the LEGO PF battery box.

LEGO Tank Warfare

Hey guys,

My latest video is something really special, at least I think so. Been working on it for a long time now. It is the first time I've had multiple people working on a video, and I had a lot of trouble getting everything coordinated. Especially because I was filming outdoors, which means you are very dependent on the weather (cold, rain, snow, clouded, or just too wet). But everything finally came together and I think it's something you will enjoy. It's definitely quite a bit different from what I usually do.

The new build is also quite interesting in itself. For instance it's the first time I have used an EV3, which opens up a lot of interesting possibilities. For instance this tank has a self-stabilizing gun. Soon, I hope to make another video that goes more into the technical details of my new tank. But in the meantime I hope you'll enjoy this:

Digital building instructions for my spring based shooting mechanism

Below you will find a link to a digital model of my spring based shooting mechanism (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3K_dUGjVZSHQzVwN2YwejFUZEk/view?usp=sharing). To view it you will need LEGO Digital Designer (LDD) software, which you can download here: http://ldd.lego.com/en-us/download?ignorereferer=true. Once you opened LDD and loaded the digital model, you will be able to generate building instructions by pressing F7.

I would like to note that this is my first attempt building a digital model. There are several errors which I couldn't fix:

1. You should replace all instances of 87082 with 15100. It seems 15100 is not present in LDD.
2. The magazine is missing one part, namely 18654. The spot is easy to identify, just place it on the only exposed blue pin.
3. If you are having trouble making the bowstring or assembling the magazine, please take a look at this video: https://youtu.be/q_2lnsgdV0o.

I hope these instructions will be useful to you. Happy building!
